The GFCI

You know how we have those plugs that have the GFCI button on them? The reset button, to make our outlets work again?

I was reading through my Bible today doing a little mini study on prayer, I would love to share a few things that stood out to me.

What does prayer do?

"Through prayer we align our hearts with Gods purposes and experience his presence in our daily lives."

So many times we get caught up in the day to day and forget, or get busy and do not really connect with God in a meaningful way, a way that sustains us through whatever our day may bring.

I needed this reminder that prayer aligns my heart with HIS purpose.

Every day my non-negotiable has to be, starting the day aligning my heart with his plan for me first.

Second point that stood out - Prayer is the alternative to worry!  Worry is such an every day human emotion, we worry about our job, our kids, our country, our community etc  But what a powerful tool we have, in that we can give it to Jesus in prayer and every time it comes back to worry, use that as a reminder to pray and that takes us into the next part that really stood out to me, “pray without ceasing”

This doesn’t mean we pray non-stop all day long and have zero communication with anyone else.  He is instead inviting us to have an ongoing conversation with him throughout your day.

How many times have you found yourself in a text chain where you messaged back and forth most of the day. It wasn’t a constant conversation but when you thought about something you shared it, a laugh, a meme or just something that happened that day.

This is how it looks to pray without ceasing, it’s sharing your day, moments, thoughts, joys, sorrows with the one and only true King.  It’s taking a moment to thank him when you feel overwhelmed with gratitude, its stopping when anxiety hits, to say, Lord help me to give this to you, its asking for wisdom and waiting for the answer when things are difficult, it’s sharing your life with your bestie.

If this seems overwhelming for you, moving forward I want to encourage you, shift your perspective on prayer, it doesn’t have to be about perfecting a practice and creating a habit, instead it can be about deepening a relationship.

How many hours did you spend with your best friend before being able to call them that?  You know what they are thinking, you know what they mean when others don’t get it, you are connected in a different way than all of your other friends, I want to encourage you to give that same space to Jesus, share your joys & sorrows and get to know him in a new way. Give Him your first few minutes of the day to connect.

I was reading through this study this morning and this visual popped into my head.  We have so many outlets in my home, you cannot walk a couple feet and there is another one.  I do not have to search long and hard, I just have to look up and around to find one.  Now some outlets are used for a quick mixing in the kitchen or a hair dryer in the bathroom but there are only a few that have the GFCI where you can click that reset button.

In our daily lives we “plug” into so many different things, social media and doom scroll, community, family, activities, vacations, work, etc and we prioritize all the things because we have easy access to them all.  We can simply plug in and we are happy, entertained, or just busy, you have access to a plug at every corner but there are only a few that can actually give you the reset button, I personally feel I need this one regularly.

My daily routine involves my reset, my time with Him, and when I prioritize that time, I find I “pray without ceasing” naturally.

Recently I was out in public and realized I was just so grateful for the life God has given me, I said out-loud without realizing it, “Thank you Jesus” I got a couple looks and realized that was audible, lol but it also made me realize that I have learned to lean in, to connect, to reset, and my soul truly cry’s out to HIM.

Prayer changes things.  Find your reset button this week and make time to commune with God, relationships are work, all of them, but this one doesn’t have to be, let it be as simple as the one you have with your best friend, your first thought is to share it all with them.

Its just like any other relationship, communication is the key, simply sharing your dreams, your fears, all the things and with that comes a true connection and a deeper relationship.

He see's you, he loves you, let him walk it out with you.

Love you and so does He - Heather
